The Power of Preparation in Short Film and Commercial Shoots

On location there is a lot you can't control: weather, light, crowds, time. The only thing you can control is preparation.

A detailed shot list doesn't limit creativity on set; by securing the must-have shots it opens up time for improvisation. Once the mandatory frames are in the can, the crew relaxes.

Thinking about the edit while shooting prevents piling up unnecessary material. On projects where we plan transitions, rhythm and sound design on set, post-production gets noticeably shorter.
